Robert and Sylvia Rothstein Educational Scholarship

In order to promote and strengthen public service in Friendship Heights, the Village Council established the Robert and Sylvia Rothstein Educational Scholarship in 1998. The scholarship is named in honor of two longtime Village residents who have exemplified community service and commitment to education.

Over the years, the scholarship has been awarded to a number of Friendship Heights residents to advance their educations. It has also been used as a vehicle for community education. In 2005-2006 Rothstein Scholarship funds were used to subsidize training for Village residents in the use of both CPR and the automated external defibrillator-"Project Heartbeat." Over 140 people became certified in these proven lifesaving skills through the program. Through the use of Rothstein funds, Village residents paid just $5 for this training. Non-residents could take the course for $25.

Individual applications for an award are accepted each year at the discretion of the Village Council. This fiscal year (2009-2010) no individual awards will be offered. There may be programs for community education during the year.

If individual awards are made in the future, they will be announced on this site and in the Village newsletter.
