Robert and Sylvia Rothstein Educational Scholarship

In order to promote and strengthen public service in Friendship Heights, the Village Council established the Robert and Sylvia Rothstein Educational Scholarship in 1998. The scholarship is named in honor of two longtime Village residents who have exemplified community service and commitment to education.

The Rothstein Scholarship is intended for residents of the Village of Friendship Heights, and is awarded on the basis of the current Criteria and General Conditions (see link below). Applications for the scholarship become available after the award for the current year is announced (see link below). For a list of previous winners, click here.

In 2005-2006, in lieu of an award to an individual, Rothstein Scholarship funds were used to subsidize training for Village residents in the use of both CPR and the automated external defibrillator-"Project Heartbeat." Over 140 people became certified in these proven lifesaving skills through the program. Through the use of Rothstein funds, Village residents paid just $5 for this training. Non-residents could take the course for $25.
